In Chains...

A new logo and brand design for 'Smith Chains'. The logo is mono only to emphasise the industrial theme with a simple solid font. The 'S' which respresents two interlocking chains is also used in repeat for the supporting brand graphics.

Whale of a Time

This 3D paper cut was created from a single sheet, cut in reverse and the elements are then folded out to create a layered effect. As the design is only single colour, it is only the shadows and highlights that allow the graphics to be read.

Hooked

For this design I used the letter 'H' to create an interlocking grid to represent the name 'Hooked'. I chose a minimal, muted colour palette to compliment the design. The 'H' is custom drawn so it will interlock correctly and the main font is Myriad Bold.

Bite the Bullet

A new paper cut design based on the phrase 'Bite the Bullet' which means 'Go for it'. All elements hand cut from black, white and gold card, and assembled with foam spacers to create the layered effect.

See Ya!

This design was sketched on paper and then vectorised in Illustrator. The lettering was also hand drawn and I applied transparency effects to the graphic to create the overprinted look.

Fork Handles

This paper cut design was inspired by the famous 'Two Ronnies' sketch 'Fork Handles' where they mistake 'four candles' for 'fork handles'. It's a very clever piece of comedy and always makes me laugh when I see it. All the elements were cut from coloured paper and assembled using foam spacers and double sided tape. I have also posted some images showing the construction method.

Escape

A new 3D paper cut design created with layered card. All the elements are drawn and cut by hand, then assembled with polystyrene spacers to create the depth of field. The theme 'escape' came about when I was having a really bad day and just wanted to escape from it all. Feeling better already!

Groove

A new design created using paper shapes cut with scissors. Although this method is quite fiddly and time consuming, you get a nice hand made feel which I think adds to the effect. This design just celebrates great music - whatever its form.

On your Bike

This design was created as part of a flyer and poster campaign to promote a charity bike ride in June 2013. The graphics were created in Illustrator CS and the fonts are InfoText and Jenna Sue Script.

Ouch

I created this 3D paper cut using red card with the type and spikes cut in reverse and folded out from a single sheet. It is only the light and shadows that allow the elements to be visible. This design was actually only a test but as it turned out OK I thought I might as well post it! I have photographed several images from slightly different angles to show the cutting process and how light changes the overall effect.

Gum

A new design created using paper shapes cut with scissors. Although this method is quite fiddly and time consuming, you get a nice hand made feel which I think adds to the effect. This design is based on the famous gumball machines.
