Tickle my Fancy

This paper cut design is based on the phrase 'tickle my fancy'. All the elements are cut from coloured paper but I also used an embossing tool to create the feathers spine. The text is cut from a single sheet and double mounted to create the shadows.

The Root of all Evil

This paper cut design is based on the phrase 'Money is the Root of all Evil', where the word 'Evil' represents a plant and the roots have pound signs (£) embedded in them to portray money. All elements cut by hand from card and assembled with foam spacers to create shadows.

Donut

I created this paper cut design to show the word play between the words 'donut' and 'do not' which I found quite amusing. The cross through the donut also enforces the message. All elements hand cut from paper and assembled with foam tape.

Rip it up

'Rip it up and start again' was a song by 80's band Orange Juice - but in this case I am talking more about the creation process itself and how often designers want to just throw a project away and start again. All elements hand cut (and ripped) from card and assembled with foam spacers.

Dinosaw

I was inspired to create this design after cutting some wood to fix a fence panel. My hand saws were lay on the ground and looked like a dinosaurs jaw. It's amazing where inspiration comes from! All elements cut from coloured paper and the blades from metallic card.

Suit Up

A new 3D paper cut design based on the phrase 'suit up'. The tie forms an upwards arrow to emphasise the word 'up' in the text. All elements hand cut from card and assembled with foam spacers.

Gump

This paper design is cut from a single colour sheet of card and the elements are then pushed out to create a 3D effect. The idea is based on 'Forrest Gump' the famous film with Tom Hanks. I hope you got that!

Tools

I thought it might be an interesting idea to portray the tools of paper cutting as an actual paper cut design. These are really the only tools I use - pencil, scalpel and of course paper. The scalpel blade is made from metallic card but it doesn't reproduce well in the photograph.
All elements hand cut from coloured card and assembled with foam spacers to create depth.

Bird

I thought it might be a nice idea to create a character using the paper cut technique, as the bright simple shapes of the paper seemed perfect for this type of design. 'Bird' is a simple layered piece but her little handbag hopefully gives it a little twist?

Paint the Town Red

A new 3D paper cut design based on the phrase 'Paint the Town Red'. The saying dates back to the 1830's and basically means 'go out and have a good time'. This design is assembled with half inch polystyrene to create enhanced shadows.
